Interior architecture resists a simple definition. The department’s biennial exhibition at RISD took this complexity as its starting point, inviting visitors to walk backward through the design process and discover the traces of the designer embedded in even the smallest decisions.
Role: Curatorial and Exhibition Design Assistant
Organized into four distinct sections — Presentation as Solution, Critique as Conversation, Studio as Exploration, and Home as Self-Expression — the show moved from polished final work to the most intimate space of the designer: the bedroom. Rather than framing design as a linear act of production, it presented it as a cycle of influence between a designer’s lived experience and the spaces they create for others.
As project manager and member of the curatorial team, I helped shape the organizational structure and intellectual framing of the show — coordinating across the department, supporting student designers, and translating interdisciplinary work into a coherent public narrative. The experience deepened my understanding of design as an ongoing negotiation between intention, material, and the people who will inhabit the spaces we make.
